Before Florence Hits: Act now to help the Carolinas

September 13, 2018

Hurricane Florence is on track to wreak havoc across the Carolinas, with landfall expected tonight. Despite the tremendous evacuation efforts, there remains a high potential for fatalities and the total devastation of communities.

Now’s the time to help.

Below is the Community Foundation’s curated list of opportunities to support organizations we know will direct funds quickly and efficiently to local groups working with affected families.

The Foundation for the Carolinas has established a relief fund to support those affected by the unprecedented storm. Donations to the Hurricane Florence Response Fund will be directed to nonprofits in North and South Carolina providing relief to victims of the storm. Grants will be distributed to areas of greatest need once the full impact of the hurricane is realized. Give via your donor advised fund or give via your credit card.

The North Carolina Community Foundation’s Disaster Relief Fund will support nonprofits with programs that help hurricane victims in North Carolina. All funds raised for the NCCF Disaster Relief Fund will go directly to nonprofit organizations serving the needs of local individuals and communities in the impacted areas of North Carolina. Give via your donor advised fund or give via your credit card.

The Coastal Community Foundation of South Carolina has established a disaster relief fund to support the immediate storm response and long-term recovery investments in its nine-county service region: Beaufort, Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton, Dorchester, Hampton and Jasper Counties; and Horry and Georgetown counties via its affiliate organization, the Waccamaw Community Foundation. Give via your donor advised fund or give via your credit card.

The Eastern Carolina Community Foundation is accepting donations to support Hurricane Florence relief across the Pee Dee region. Contributions will go to nonprofit agencies working to meet the needs of hurricane victims in this area. Give via your donor advised fund or give via your credit card.

Save the Children is responding to Hurricane Florence with emergency assistance. Their work focuses on protecting vulnerable children and providing desperately needed relief to families. Give to Save the Children’s Hurricane Florence Children’s Relief Fund via your donor advised fund or your credit card.
