Fundholder Favorite: ArtsPower in Cedar Grove

Fundholders at the Community Foundation of New Jersey support effective nonprofit organizations up and down our state. Over the next month, we’ll be sharing some of our fundholders’ favorite programs. As the season of giving approaches, we hope these short profiles inspire you to support new and worthwhile programs in New Jersey communities.

ArtsPower National Touring Theatre, based in Cedar Grove, is one of the Community Foundation’s fundholders’ favorites. Using meaningful, quality theatre, ArtsPower shows young people the benefits associated with the love of family and friends, learning from their own mistakes, being tolerant of others, and realizing that goodness and truth should prevail over hate and ignorance.

Recently named one of “12 touring theatre companies across the country that make a difference” by Backstage magazine, ArtsPower has created and toured 34 literature-based musicals and dramas that have been seen by more than 13.5 million elementary and middle school students, their teachers, and their families.

Since 1985, ArtsPower has presented 16,500 performances in first-run regional theatres, cultural centers, university auditoriums, and schools across 49 states and Canada. Shows are based on classic and popular books for young readers and not only entertain young people, but also challenge their intellect, encourage compassion and understanding, and ignite their desire to read.
