We encourage you to scan the below list and consider attending one or more of these awareness-raising opportunities. As we said in an editorial in January, “the best way for ordinary citizens to help defeat this scourge is by raising awareness.”

Human Trafficking Awareness-Raising Events in NJ
April 15, 7:00 pm “Anchors Away- Building Student Leadership to End Modern-Day Slavery”: This event will be a night of awareness and the launch of the school chapter initiative. Sponsored by Project Stay Gold at County College of Morris. Center Grove Road, Randolph, NJ
April 20, 5:30 – 8:00 pm “A Day In The Life: Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Young Women and Girls” at Rutgers School of Law – Newark: a one-act performance followed by an esteemed panel of experts.
April 28, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm “Summit on Child Abuse & Neglect: Human Trafficking and the Sexual Exploitation of Children & Youth” at NJ Performing Arts Center. Hosted by Dr. Jeff Gardere, CNN Correspondent, and Evelyn Mejil, CEO and Executive Director of Wynona’s House. Programming will include an expert panel on child exploitation, featuring speakers on human trafficking, sex trafficking, and child abuse. Keynote speaker, Gloria Gaynor, will share her personal story of sexual abuse.
April 30, 7:00 pm “Dessert and Dialogue – Combatting Sex Trafficking in New Jersey, the United States and Beyond”: This event features speaker Lauren Hersh, Director of Anti-Trafficking & Advocacy at Sanctuary for Families in NY. Sponsored by the National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW), Community Relations Committee of Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest at Congregation B’nai Jeshurun. 102 S. April 30, 9:30 am – 4:00 pm DHS and ED Blue Campaign Stakeholder Event: This event is focused on raising awareness of human trafficking issues in secondary schools and colleges. At ICE Headquarters in Washington D.C. More information to come.
May 2, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm Cut-a-Thon & Fair Trade Market at Calvary Temple International, 1111 Preakness Avenue, Wayne, NJ. Get a haircut, manicure or purchase handcrafted items. All proceeds will go to Restore NYC to help rescue victims of human trafficking.
May 23, 9:00 am HEAAT Walk for Freedom, 2nd Annual Anti-Trafficking Walk Starting location: Kennedy Plaza, 2301 Boardwalk, Atlantic City, NJ. End location: Rally at Kennedy Plaza. Hear from human trafficking survivors and advocates.
