You may have seen in the Gannett papers today a detailed profile on human trafficking in New Jersey. This is an issue the Community Foundation of New Jersey and many interested fundholders first became involved with in 2014, around the time when New Jersey hosted the Super Bowl (there was and is some debate around whether trafficking spikes during large-scale events like these).
In 2019 alone, 11,500 human trafficking cases were reported in the US to the National Hotline, with 75 percent of these victims were women and children. While numbers are not out for 2020 or 2021, many suspect trafficking increased as a result of people spending more time online, a hotbed for traffickers.
Our friends and partners in this work, the New Jersey Coalition Against Human Trafficking, remain vigilant in their work to eliminate this scourge from New Jersey and beyond.
