National Severe Weather Preparedness Week Kicks Off

April 20, 2014

Monday, March 3rd kicks off National Severe Weather Preparedness Week and, according to data from FEMA, there is plenty to prepare for.

FEMA reports, “In 2013, there were seven weather and climate disaster events with losses exceeding $1 billion each across the United States. These events included five severe weather and tornado events, a major flood event, and the western drought/heat wave. Overall, these events killed 109 people and had significant economic effects on the areas impacted.”

We here at the Community Foundation of New Jersey know firsthand the damage severe weather can cause, and it’s why we sprang into action with partners across the state to respond to Superstorm Sandy.
