Newark Elementary Students Gain Appreciation for Art

May 23, 2016

Stephen At Work on artEgypt RulersStudents from Ivy Hill Elementary School in Newark learned how to walk like an Egyptian, among other things, during an educational field trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The students toured many of the museum’s exhibits and were tasked with sketching their favorite art displays.

The students’ sketches were discussed back at Ivy Hill’s art club, and gave students an opportunity to speak in greater depth about the different types of art they enjoy and why.

The visit to the Metropolitan Museum of Art was made possible with a grant from Field Trip New Jersey, an endowment launched by the Community Foundation of New Jersey and Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation to take students into new places that have the power to awaken, hush, awe, enrich, or otherwise positively change their lives.
