Among the hundreds of thousands who traveled to Washington, DC for Saturday’s ‘March for Our Lives’ protest were students from several Newark high schools.
“There’s a great energy around here,” one student from St. Benedict’s Prep told WPIX. “Everybody protesting for one thing. It’s really lovely.”
The Newark students’ trip was made possible by the generosity of an anonymous fundholder at the Community Foundation of New Jersey who felt compelled to help the students experience what some are calling the largest coordinated youth demonstration since the Vietnam War.
The students, including many from Link Community Charter School, were able to not only express their views on gun violence, but also hear impassioned speeches, meet students from around the country, and even share a quiet moment with a teacher from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
The trip is one these students won’t soon forget. Their front-row seat to history will undoubtedly energize them to speak out on important issues, engage in civil debate, and continually strive for a better, more peaceful world.
