Legg Mason Investment Council CEO Joins Community Foundation Board

The Community Foundation of New Jersey (CFNJ) today announced that Harry O’Mealia, Chairman and CEO of Legg Mason Investment Counsel, has joined the Board of Trustees.

Mr. O’Mealia joined Legg Mason in 2005, continuing a long career in the financial services industry.  Immediately before joining Legg Mason, he was a Managing Director of Tiedemann Trust Company, specializing in manager search, client acquisition and relationship management.  He previously served as President and CEO of US Trust Company of New Jersey, Regional Head of JP Morgan Company’s Private Client Group in New Jersey, President of O’Mealia Outdoor Advertising, President of Black River Media Publishing Company, and Associate in the corporate department of Lowenstein Sandler LLP.

“Harry will be an important new voice on our board given his considerable experience in finance and understanding of the best investment vehicles for trusts and small institutions,” said Thomas Uhlman, Chairman of the CFNJ Board.  “Our Board and staff look forward to working with Harry to grow the Foundation’s own assets while also staying ahead of the curve in providing our donors with innovative and impactful philanthropic giving opportunities.”

Mr. O’Mealia is the Chairman of the Independent College Fund of Maryland, and is a member of the New Jersey Advisory Council for The Trust for Public Land. He is a member of the Bars of the State of New Jersey and the U.S. Supreme Court. He is also a past Board member of The Maryland Academy of Sciences, The Baltimore Urban Debate League, NJN, the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, and Morristown Memorial Hospital.

He earned a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania, a J.D. from Boston College Law School, and an M.B.A. in Finance from Columbia University.
