Union Beach Campers Write Home

July 24, 2013

Earlier this summer, we told you the story of a group of Madison residents who worked together to sponsor camperships for children from Union Beach, a town truly ravaged by Hurricane Sandy.  Click here to read that story.  Here’s a quick snippet:

Working together, the Borough of Madison and Madison YMCA have “adopted” Union Beach and are working to help the town’s youth attend one-week sleep-away camps.  Led by local volunteer Peg Codey, the coalition of Madisonites is seeking financial support to provide up to 57 camperships.

The Community Foundation of New Jersey will support the campership program through its Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund.  Other sponsors include Quest Diagnostics and the Thenen Foundation.

Well just this week we heard from several of the kids at camp.  We thought their letters were too good not to share.  Scroll down for the notes from these well-deserving children!

So far so good!  I am having a great time right now and made two new friends.  Camp is awesome!  Love, Christina

Thank you for allowing my friends and I to be members of Frost Valley first session.  The activities here are great!  So far we went rock climbing, swimming, apple boating, saw fireowrks, had smores, and tons more.  It was rainy for the first few days, but the scenery is beautiful.  Thank you so much for thsi opportunity!  Karyssa

Dear Madison Township – Thank you for sending me to camp.  I’ve had an amazing time.  Love, Damien

Thanks a lot for paying for my camp.  PS – I’m learning lots of stuff.

Thank you so much for sending me to this amazing camp.  It has been an awesome experience.  I have met a lot of new friends and learned new things.  Thank you again for this amazing experience.  I am taking woodshop which is really fun and soccer and water sports.  They are both really fun because you sent me here.  Thank you.  Thank you.  Thank you.
