The Community Foundation of New Jersey (CFNJ) today announced that it will honor four of New Jersey’s “Young Changemakers.”
CFNJ will present each Young Chamgemaker with a $2,500 prize at its 35th Anniversary celebration on September 17, 2015 in Morristown.
The four Young Changemakers are leaders in their respective fields:
- Dominique Lee is the founder and executive director of Building Responsible Intelligent Creative Kids (BRICK), a school management nonprofit that is restarting two of the most challenged elementary schools in Newark’s South Ward. CLICK HERE FOR MORE.
- Adam Lowy is the founder and executive director of Move for Hunger, a national nonprofit founded in Monmouth County that encourages families who are moving to donate their food to the hungry. CLICK HERE FOR MORE.
- Jasmine Moreano is the director of community engagement for City Green, a Passaic County-based nonprofit organization that facilitates the creation of urban farms and gardens in northern New Jersey’s cities to create increased access to healthy, local food while cultivating education in food systems, nutrition and the environment. - Aakash Shah is the founder and director of Be Jersey Strong, a new organization that is training and mobilizing over 1,000 college students to serve as community health workers and have more than 100,000 in-person, one-on-one conversations with the uninsured about their healthcare options. “Many of the most innovative solutions to make our communities stronger are coming from new, young voices in New Jersey,” said Helen Mazarakis, a member of the CFNJ board and chair of its Public Awareness Committee, which selected the honorees. “This award recognizes the creativity and passion of these contributions and will spark an important conversation among our fundholders on some of the most effective community interventions.”
