The Community Foundation of New Jersey salutes Walter Shipley for his decades of effective philanthropy across our state and beyond, and we extend our condolences to the Shipley family on Walter’s recent passing.
Walter Shipley was the former Chairman and CEO of both Chase Manhattan Bank and Chemical Bank . Born in Newark, he never lost his New Jersey roots and would go on to support and lead many vital charitable organizations in New York and New Jersey.
Walter was especially passionate about the work of our friends at the Greater Newark Conservancy which is one of the charities that the Shipley Family asks to receive donations in lieu of flowers.
