The Morris Educational Foundation (MEF), which was incubated at the Community Foundation of New Jersey, was honored on March 29th at the 2017 Friends of Education Celebration of the Morris County Council of Education Associations annual event. The event was held at the Meadow Wood Manor in Randolph.
The MEF was nominated by The Education Association of Morris (TEAM), the teachers’ association of the Morris School District for its partnership, vision and support of the students and teachers of the public schools in Morristown.
“TEAM was honored to nominate the MEF for the Friends of Education Award. It’s a small gesture to show our tremendous appreciate for their support for our staff and students. We are fortunate to be able to partner with such a benevolent foundation,” said Deirdre Falk, President of TEAM.
Last year, the MEF awarded close to $250,000 to support innovative classroom grants, professional development opportunities for teachers, school-wide initiatives to support student opportunity, scholarships for graduating seniors, parent education programs, and community-wide tutoring.
Several Community Foundation fundholders have supported the Morris Educational Foundation in its growth from an idea to a sustainable, active nonprofit organization – as did the Foundation’s Morris County Committee, which made a significant, multi-year grant.
This recognition follows recent announcements of the MEF being ranked 5th in the nation of education foundations of its size by the Caruthers Institute as well as raising a record $125,000 from its annual fundraiser, Morristown ONSTAGE.
“We are incredibly proud of this recognition and would like to thank TEAM for nominating us for this prestigious honor,” said Kim Pistner, Chair of the Morris Educational Foundation. “This award means so much to us as the nomination came from our teachers and our work in the schools is as impactful as it is because of their vision and partnership.”
Since it was founded in 1992, the Morris Educational Foundation has provided close to $2.5 million dollars in resources impacting the lives of Morris School District students.
