On Wednesday, the Community Foundation of New Jersey was proud to join Newark Public Schools Superintendent Cami Anderson and lead funder, the Foundation for Newark’s Future, at the New Jersey Historical Society for the launch ofNew Paths Newark, an innovative approach to helping those impacted by recent layoffs.
By providing financial and academic supports, New Paths Newark looks to improve individuals’ access to new career opportunities.
“Adult learners are every bit as passionate as young people,” said Superintendent Cami Anderson at the program’s launch. “If we do this well, we can provide a model for the country on how we right-size government and provide opportunities to learners.”
Roughly 50 people attended the launch, including representatives from several New Jersey colleges and universities who will serve a critical role in the program’s success.
The Community Foundation of New Jersey and its newest Program Officer, Kevin Anthony, will administer the program, which is backed by a $2.7 million grant from the Foundation for Newark’s Future.
“The devil is in the implementation,” said Hans Dekker, President of the Community Foundation. “Our challenge is to deliver real opportunities to real people.”
