CHANGEMAKER FUND
The Community Foundation’s Leadership Committee identifies innovative solutions to some of New Jersey’s toughest challenges and provides an opportunity for interested fundholders to join a select group like-minded philanthropists to support these projects.
Changemaker Projects are highly engaging initiatives that captivate the interest of our fundholders. We provide detailed updates to participating “changemakers” on the progress and impact of the grantmaking. Recent examples include providing duffel bags of clothes and other supplies to children who are part of the Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program in New Jersey; helping to launch NJ Spotlight, an online news platform that is providing in-depth policy coverage, thereby filling the void left by smaller traditional newsrooms; and the projects below.

We are committed to reforming New Jersey’s juvenile justice system such that it is truly rehabilitative, and the young people who will someday be released back into the community are ready to do so in a safe and healthy manner. We have partnered with the Rutgers School of Law-Newark’s Post-Disposition Advocacy Project on this important work.
HUMAN TRAFFICKING PREVENTION
Beginning in the lead-up to the 2014 Super Bowl in New Jersey, we have worked to eliminate the scourage of human trafficking in New Jersey and beyond. Central to our efforts has been raising awareness of forced prostitution, and providing a lifeline for victims. We are members of the New Jersey Coalition Against Human Trafficking and a partner to the Junior Leagues of New Jersey’s State Public Affairs Committee.
INCREASED ACCESS TO SCHOOL BREAKFAST
As members of the Food for Thought: School Breakfast Campaign, we work to share the wisdom of the “breakfast after the bell” model, in which students are served a free or reduced-price breakfast after the school bell rings, not before. And the work is paying off. In 2015, New Jersey jumped 20 spots in national school breakfast rankings – higher and faster than any other state. Our partner in this important work is Advocates for Children of New Jersey.
SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY
Because we know that education is critical to helping young people live healthier, more prosperous lives, we now offer an opportunity for interested donors to help make that happen. By contributing to the Community Foundation’s Scholarship Opportunity Fund, your gift will go directly toward the education of a New Jersey student this year.
