Final numbers are still being tallied, but we know fundholders at the Community Foundation of New Jersey recommended more than $70 million in grants to worthy causes and communities in 2023. This extraordinary sum was the lifeblood of hundreds of local nonprofit organizations, with more than $20 million going towards food security specifically.
The Foundation’s leadership work, which attracted the support of numerous fundholders, included the launch of the New Jersey Food Security Fund, a partnership with the Geraldine R. Doge Foundation to launch the Fund for a Just and Equitable Morris County, a pooled fund to support the innovative work of EqualSpace in Newark, and the Morris Area Funders Group, which in its first year seeks to address mental health concerns in the county.
More than $1.5 million was granted in the form of scholarships from the Foundation’s 133 individual scholarship funds. We were also pleased to grow new corporate philanthropy with through Prudential Community Grants, the Panasonic STEM grants program, and the RSI Bank Foundation’s grants in the Rahway area.
